Baitcasting Reels
Baitcasters, similar to their counter part, the spinning reel, are typically used for a specific type of fish. There are some fans whom only use baitcasters, where as others only use spinning reels. Baitcasters are the best when used for casting or trolling applications. Casting can be an overhead cast, flip, or pitch. One benefit with a baitcaster is casting accuracy. One can press the thumb on the line to slow the reel speed down and gently and precisely place your bait where you want it. This also helps prevent backlashes if the reel hasn’t been properly setup.
There are several pros to using a baitcaster
- Can use heavier line with hardly an problems while casting or reeling
- Easier to get leverage with baitcasting rod when fitting big game fish
- When properly setup and oiled, can sling a bait long distances with ease
- Add a line counter for deep trolling
